Notley Youth 2 Rayne Youth 7
Rayne booked their place in the Knockout Cup Final with a win over local rivals Notley Youth. Notley didn’t make it easy for Rayne and were 1-0 up within 8 minutes as Rayne struggled to deal with their direct play. After taking a while to settle the scores were brought level with a header from Harrison Lane. Notley pushed on and tested the back 4 of Rayne with balls to their front man, but were hit on the counter attack twice with goals from James Baker and Josh Oben.
A quick goal from Notley after the start of the second half was the tonic that Rayne needed to let them know that they needed to be tighter in defence and move the ball quicker. That said Rayne started to squeeze the play and not let Notley have time on the ball. Goals started to come in with Benedict Schwarz-Clandillon next on the scoresheet with two headed corner goals from Jacky Wu and Evan Payne. The final strike fell to Joe Betteridge who deserved this goal for his hard work up front. James Baker comes away with a Man of the Match performance, a goal, a massive work rate down the left side and hitting the woodwork twice.
Well done to Notley who really gave Rayne a game today. The boys were a credit to their Manager and Supporters.
