Springfield Youth Reds 2 Rayne Youth 3
Am entertaining game which helped blow the cobwebs away after the Xmas break. Springfield started off on the front foot and used their pace up front to split the Rayne back 4 on a couple of occasions in the first few minutes. But it was Rayne who took the lead with some good build up play around the box which allowed Harry Ashcroft to score after the square delivery from the right hand side. Springfield were back on level terms 15 minutes later after the award of a penalty after a needless barge in the box. Rayne had control of the game but it was the pace of the front two for Springfield which caught them out at times allowing them to have attempts at goal which luckily for Rayne went either high or wide. It took until the 38 minute to score again with Benedict Schwarz Clandillon put a left footed shoot past the keeper after again good build up play by Rayne down the flanks. Harrison Lane was next on the scoresheet 20 minutes into the second half, him and Joe Betteridge playing some nice one-two touches just outside the box allowing Lane to put past the keeper. Springfield hit back with 10 to go after a long clearance from their box sent their striker on his way who duly converted. Rayne had to soak up the pressure as Springfield pushed for the equaliser but it was Evan Payne’s double block inside the box that help see Rayne come away with all 3 points. Some good performances today especially from Luke Ackhurst in goal and Jacky Wu in the midfield.
