U11s vs Dunmow Rhodes Lions – 22nd March 2015

Rayne Youth 1   Dunmow Rhodes Lions 2

Rayne were edged out in a close game that saw Dunmow complete the league double over the hosts.  There was very little between the sides in the first half.  Dunmow forced a couple of good saves from Khai, whilst Olly went close when he followed up the rebound from Evan’s free kick.  With the end of the first half looming, a speculative effort from outside the area gave Khai absolutely no chance and the Lions went into the break a goal up.  Dunmow doubled their lead soon after the restart, an avoidable goal from Rayne’s view point as the home team had several opportunities to clear the ball but failed to do so and were punished.  This caused heads to drop, and for the next twenty minutes Rayne seemed to play without any self-belief.  This all changed when Evan’s cross was half saved by the Lions keeper and Gregory tapped the ball into an empty net.  All of a sudden Rayne upped their game as they looked for an equaliser.  Rayne looked dangerous when they kept the ball on the floor and passed it around, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be as the Lions held firm for the win.  It was a good performance by all the players, but when things go against them they need to learn to keep their heads up, encourage each other and keep believing in themselves.

Team: Khai; Thomas, Evan, Fred; Kiane, Gregory, Olly, Harry; Josh.  Sub: Toby.

Scoring: 0-1 (27m); 0-2 (33m); 1-2 (Gregory 53m).
